The leaked diplomatic cable published on Sunday has revealed what the UK ambassador think about Trump administration. The UK ambassador described Trump administration as “diplomatically clumsy and inept”. In one of a leaked memo Darroch, the UK ambassador in the US wrote, “We don’t really believe this administration is going to become substantially more normal; less faction-riven; less diplomatically clumsy and inept.”
Asking about the Trump’s reaction on the leaked memo, he told reporters, “No I haven’t seen it, but, you know, we’ve had our little ins and outs with a couple of countries and I would say that the UK and the ambassador has not served the UK well, I can tell you that.”
Further, he added, “We’re not big fans of that man and he has not served the UK well, so I can understand it,” Trump said. “And I can say things about him but I won’t bother.”
The government has begun an inquiry into the leak of emails. The international trade secretary Liam Fox said following the leak of confidential internal memos, Britain’s ambassador to the US had done nothing wrong and was held in high regard. He criticized the leaker and said, “They’re unprofessional, they’re unethical, and they’re unpatriotic.”
Both US and UK enjoy a special relationship since World War II and a comment made by the ambassador of the UK will not be easily digestible for the Trump administration. Britain’s Foreign Office did not challenge the authenticity of the document.
Farage has also commented on the matter and said, “I’m afraid with our civil service, our Foreign Office, everybody stayed in place, it was obvious to all that these were the people who in many ways did not accept the results of those elections”. The leak came out in the time when the UK is going through a difficult phase.
