The U.S officials have now passed an ordinance, mentioning that visa applicants need to submit their social media handle. This is done in regards to the new U.S policy of strict Visa screening, which has been an important part of Trump administration.
The orders were passed a year back but will be implemented form this month. The change which looks minor will have an effect on more than 13 million tourists and traveler and 70 thousand immigrants, per year. The U.S officials have defended the orders and have justified it stating that it is important for national security.
There have been opposing to the orders, American Civil Liberties Union says it is a matter of concern, and such a step can lead towards discrimination. Their major concern is the applicants will be discriminated based on their opinion, which can be known by their social media platform.
Also, there has been criticism against the orders due to the very reason that many believe this policy is nothing but Trump’s strict and rigid approach towards immigrants. Looking at the number of people affected by this, this will enforce other countries’ politicians to
step into it, will have a say into it.
The orders of compulsory social media handle for a visa is somewhat sounded unnecessary but on the other hand, if implemented without any discrimination, this can really help with the national security issue. It will interesting to see how
will the applicants react to these mandatory changes and how much will affect the tourist and immigrants in the flow of U.S.A.
