Kim Darroch, Britain’s ambassador to the United States, has submitted his resignation on Wednesday. The UK’s ambassador has stepped down from his post of Britain’s ambassador to the United States after his candid conversation about Trump government got leaked.
Since the leak of official conversation where UK ambassador called Trump Administration ‘clumsy’ the war of words reached on its high. President Trump has already vowed that he would not deal with the ambassador, following the leak of UK diplomatic memos. Trump also used Twitter to express his views about Kim Darroch. He said, “The wacky ambassador that the UK foisted upon the United States is not someone we are thrilled with, a very stupid guy.”
The top diplomat wrote in his resignation that his job had become “impossible” after the memo leak. In the extracts released by the Foreign Office, Mr. Darroch has written in a letter to the head of the British Foreign Office, “Since the leak of official documents from this Embassy there has been a great deal of speculation surrounding my position and the duration of my remaining term as ambassador,”
Mr. Darroch said, “I want to put an end to that speculation. The current situation is making it impossible for me to carry out my role as I would like.”
In response to Darroch’s letter, McDonald expressed gratitude for his work and said he accepted the resignation with “deep personal regret.” McDonald wrote, “The Prime Minister, Foreign Secretary and the whole of the public service have stood with you: you were the target of a malicious leak; you were simply doing your job.”
Theresa May told the MPs about the resignation of Kim Darroch. She said that she had spoken to Darroch and said to Sir Kim Darroch that it was “a matter of great regret that he has felt it necessary to leave his position.”
